11 More Killer Halloween Party Themes

I love some killer Halloween party themes.

Over the decade I hosted Halloweenie Roast, I discovered that having a theme was a key component to bringing everything together. It gave direction to my decor, menu, and playlist.

It also gave my friends a place to start with costume ideas—especially after implementing a costume contest with prizes.

I love brainstorming Halloween party themes so much that I put together this list of 15 ideas a few years ago. It’s been one of the most popular posts on Spooky Little Halloween…so today I’m adding 11 more to the mix.

11 More Killer Halloween Party Themes

1. Vampire Dinner Party

My intention with Halloweenie Roast was to eventually turn it into a dinner party. Maybe someday when I have more space, I’ll get a chance to do that…or start hosting a dinner party to kick off October! Until then, I’ll keep dreaming up themes for it, like this stunning black-and-red vampire dinner party. SEE MORE

2. Witches Tea Party

Similarly, I’ve had the idea of a witches’ tea party in my head for years. I’ve seen lots of takes on it and think it’s such a fun idea for getting your best ghouls (or goblins!) together during spooky season for a weekend afternoon. SEE MORE

3. Tim Burton

Year after year, I asked my friends what theme they’d like to see at Halloweenie Roast in the future. When Tim Burton was suggested, I immediately loved it and used it the very next year. This was just one of the table centerpieces I did, but I used inspiration from many of his movies for my part. SEE MORE

4. 1920s Murder Mystery

Since we’re in the new Roaring 20s, wouldn’t it be fun to host a party themed around 1920s costumes? And adding a murder mystery game to it only seems appropriate! While this idea isn’t outright Halloween, I think you could have fun Halloweenify-ing it by maybe asking everyone to come as zombie flappers and gangsters. SEE MORE

5. Monster Mash

My final year of Halloweenie Roast, my theme was The Monster Mash. I encouraged everyone to come as their favorite monster, whatever that meant to them, and decorated with a bit of a mad scientist theme. It was SO much fun lighting this year for a bit of spooky ambiance. SEE MORE

6. “Hocus Pocus” Watch Party

To be fair, “Hocus Pocus” made the cut in the last round of themes, but I thought it was one worth revisiting since “Hocus Pocus 2” comes out this season. Thinking about hosting a watch party with your friends, family, or yourself? Then you’ll want to borrow some ideas from this birthday party. SEE MORE

7. Slashers

Freddy, Jason, Michael, Ghostface…the gang’s all here for this killer (literally) party idea: center the night around one or all of your favorite slashers from iconic horror franchises. SEE MORE

8. Halloween County Fair

As Midsummer Scream this year, there was a booth in the Hall of Shadows that was like a county fair booth. You could play a few different games to win prizes. It was so much fun, I visited it twice. I love the idea of hosting a Halloween-themed county fair party. This would be especially great for kiddos. SEE MORE

9. Witches Ball

This is another theme I’ve used: host a witches ball! Encourage all your friends to decorate their own witch hat in any style, then come to your party. Think of it like the Kentucky Derby gone spooky. SEE MORE

10. Halloween Candy Treat Exchange

This is another idea I’ve been wanting to do. Ever been to a cookie exchange during the holiday season? This is like that, but instead of cookies, you ask everyone to pick their favorite Halloween candy, make a treat using it, and then bring enough to share. Everyone goes home with one of everything to try. SEE MORE

11. Pumpkin Carving

And finally, a classic! If nothing else, invite a few friends over for an afternoon of carving jack-o-lanterns together. SEE MORE
