9 Halloween Craft Ideas to Try This Season

Looking for new Halloween craft ideas to try this spooky season? In today’s post, I have nine ideas for you!

Shopping for decor at the big box stores or even our fave spooky small businesses is always great, but there’s something special about a Halloween craft project. Every time I look at mine, I think about the work that went into it, the movie I was watching, and it just has an extra special feel.

Halloween crafts are also great because they’re a fun way to make your own decor that no one else is going to have. Even if you’re following a tutorial, you have the freedom to make the idea your own.

Over the years, I’ve shared a handful of fun things I’ve made for my apartment…and I thought it was time to revisit them. (Honestly, I’m hoping these get me inspired to try something new to share around here this season too!)

Here are nine of my favorites I’ve made over the years for my parties, home decor, or just because I was inspired.

9 Halloween Craft Ideas to Try This Season

Halloween Craft Idea: Witches Brew Jars - Looking for a way to make your Halloween party a little more witchy? Check out these super simple (and cute!) witches brew jars I made for my 2015 party! | spookylittlehalloween.com

1. Witches Brew Jars

We’re throwing things back to one of the very first quick craft projects I ever shared. I’m a big fan of crafts that aren’t overly complicated, so early on I kept things simple. I made these witches’ brew jars for my 2015 Halloween party using things I already owned.

These were such a fun touch for that year’s witch-themed party. Want to make your own? Head over to the post where you can get the instructions AND download my labels. (Which also includes lavender, which I couldn’t find.) SEE THE DIY

#DIY Halloween Project: Witch Cauldron Centerpiece - Make this super simple DIY witch cauldron centerpiece for Halloween! I'll show you how step by step, plus the sources for all my supplies! | spookylittlehalloween.com

2. Witch Cauldron Centerpiece

Y’all: my mom is the true MVP behind-the-scenes of Spooky Little Halloween. Early on, she let me slow down HER crafting projects so I could share them on the blog. We both love floral centerpieces for seasonal decor, and watching her put together this witch cauldron was so much fun.

Plus, you can totally customize this to your color preferences. SEE THE DIY

Make your own bat terrarium for Halloween for less than $10! Spooky Little Halloween will teach you how + give you step-by-step directions.

3. Bat Terrarium

I love this craft because it cost me less than $10 to make it. It’s a simple little project that turned out beautifully and could be incorporated onto a bookshelf or mantle. SEE THE DIY

It's never too early to work on a DIY Halloween decoration, and this no-sew fabric wreath is as easy as it gets. Get the step-by-step instructions.

4. No-Sew Fabric Wreath

Love all those Halloween fabrics you see in stores but never know what the heck to make with them? Make this wreath! It requires zero sewing, just a little hot glue, and is another project you can customize based on the supplies you have or a color scheme you already have going in your home. SEE THE DIY

5. Pennant Banners

Pennant banners are a long-time fave craft project of mine. They’re a great use for scrapbook paper—esp. those big books you find in craft stores—and can add a fun, unique touch to your home or Halloween party decor. My post even includes a few templates for you to use if you aren’t great at cutting these out by hand. SEE THE DIY

Need a little inspo for how to decorate with them? Check out this post.

6. Smoking Cauldron Chandelier

Ever wonder what you can do with dry ice besides throwing it in a cauldron? Well, you could stack those cauldrons into a chandelier and hang it up as decor! This would be fun hung from a tree branch on Halloween night or in the corner of a party space to add a little ambiance. It was also an easy and affordable craft project to put together. Need a Halloween countdown calendar? Make your own using my free downloadable cards with one Halloween fun fact for every day in October!

7. Halloween Countdown Calendar

Excited for Halloween? You probably wouldn’t have read this far if you weren’t…so you probably also need a countdown calendar. I created this one a few years ago using items you may already have at home and could easily repurpose. The post also includes a printable calendar—flip over each day as it passes in October to discover a fun Halloween fact! SEE THE DIY

Years ago, Pottery Barn released a bat chandelier that was super cool...but outside my price range. So I finally made my own! Here's how.

8. Bat Chandelier

Years ago there was a bat chandelier like this available at Potter Barn…for an obscene amount of money. The idea went on my to-do list, and in the slowdown of 2020, I was finally able to make my own bat chandelier. SEE THE DIY

Learn how to make a springoween terrarium, including the best places to look for miniatures outside of Halloween season.

9. Halloween Terrarium

One more terrarium project! This one was done with the help of Andrew and Devin from Your Best Halloween Ever (check out their DIY archives for even more ideas and inspiration!) on an Instagram Live I hosted in 2020. I loved the results so much, that I turned it into a blog post! SEE THE DIY
