DIY Halloween Christmas Garland – Spooky Little Halloween

All December long I’ve been joking that I’m here to ruin Christmas with my love of Halloween.

December blog posts are part of the 13 Days of Creepmas. This post contains affiliate links. See the end of this post and/or my disclaimer for more. This post was originally published in December 2018 and last updated in November 2022.

Most recently I did that at my friend Emily’s Christmas garland-making party she hosted the first weekend of December. While everyone else was pulling out red ribbon, silver ornaments and snowflakes galore out of their bags…I was pulling strings of candy corn beads, jack-o-lantern jingle bells and black ornaments out of mine.

What can I say? I love Halloween through and through.

Under Emily’s instruction (she makes gorgeous garlands!), we put together our holiday garlands step-by-step. I love how mine turned out and wanted to share it as inspiration here on the blog!

My Halloween Christmas Garland

Originally, I intended to use my garland on my TV stand, but since I’m in the midst of moving it ended up in the final unpacked area of my apartment – my bedroom. (I’m waiting until the last possible moment to pack it up.)

I used a plain ol’ green garland from Joann that was under $5 after sale prices and coupons. I ended up folding it in half to give the garland more volume. If/when I create another, I’ll likely buy two and twist them together.

Once the garland was doubled, I twisted a string of purple lights around the branches. (The orange lights are still hanging around from Halloween season and are twisted around the metal on my bedframe.)

My friend Christopher sent me that gorgeous string of candy corn beads back in October, and as soon as Emily scheduled her party I knew I was going to use them for this project! At this point, everyone else was adding ribbon to their garland. If I made another, I’d probably add this touch as well.

(Because I know you’ll ask, the skull pillow cover was a gift…but you can find it on Amazon.)

Then I added in my various ornaments (similar) and jack-o-lantern jingle bells (also similar). To top it off, my friend Megan kindly gave me some of her acid green mercury ornaments she wasn’t using. They were the perfect final touch. You could also use Halloween floral picks, like what you can usually find at Michaels.

Now my bedroom is seasonally appropriate again!

And, to be honest, once I put up my garland…I was having fun taking photos and capturing all the Halloweeny colors happening.
